Lawrence Joerger

Lawrence Joerger, 89 years old of Yorkville, IN, passed away Monday April1, 2024.  Lawrence was known by Larry, Sonny and Kernel.  Larry was born and raised on a farm in Yorkville where he was taught the value and the love of God, farming and family.  Larry enlisted into the United States Army in 1954.  Before Larry shipped out to Korea, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Knue on March 19, 1955. Upon returning home from the Army, Larry and Marilyn started their family and purchased a farm.  Larry had said, “that the best way he knew how to raise a family was on a farm”.   Larry’s nearly 30 year career at Monsanto started as a swing shift laborer then went on to be a supervisor of the “Yard Gang”.  His second job was on the farm, which helped instill the meaning of faith, family and strong work ethic in his seven children.  The children have fond memories of working on the farm and of vacations where they loaded into the back of the family truck to head to the beach. After the children set out on their own and Larry retired, Larry and Marilyn became avid travelers.  They visited all 50 States and several southern countries. Larry was a member of the American Legion Post 452 where he served as Commander and volunteered time and talent for Post events.  Larry was also a lifetime member of All Saints Parish, Saint Martin’s Campus.  He served as an Altar Boy, Parish Council Member and devoted countless hours with events such as festivals, fish fry’s and cemetery maintenance.

Larry will be deeply missed by Marilyn, his wife of 69 years; children Laura Hartman, Linda (David) Todd, Rita (Chuck) Wissel, Larry (Beth) Joerger, Ruth (Greg) Hendrix, Bob (Kim) Joerger, and Kelly (Julie) Joerger; sister Alice Lamping and sister-in-law Phyllis Joerger; 20 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
