Latest phone scam in the area

Batesville, IN — The Batesville Police Department is warning citizens of a scam call going around the area.  The caller told an elderly resident in the community that they were an officer with the Batesville Police Department that money was owed for insurance.

Batesville Police Chief Stan Holt reminds citizens that if you receive a call soliciting for money of any kind, just hang up. Chief Holt says that technology now will scam real numbers and make you believe that it is a real request. Also never give personal information or make payments of any kind with a debit or credit card to a caller. The Batesville Police Department does not ask for donations over the phone according to Chief Holt.
