(Decatur County, IN) – Crews from several departments from Decatur and Bartholomew counties battled a structure fire at the Hulsbosch Dairy Farm on South County Road 700 West near Letts on Friday.

Firefighters arriving late Friday morning found a storage barn containing up to 800 tons of large square hay bales and agriculture equipment on fire.

Crews were on the scene for nearly 10 hours, and worked alongside heavy equipment operators to spread hay and remove debris.

An estimated 100,000 gallons of water was used during suppression efforts by firefighters from seven departments.

Due to the large quantity of hay involved, smoke remained visible in the area for some time after the fire was put out.

There were no injuries reported and none of the animals at the facility were at risk.

There’s no word on what touched off the fire.

Responding fire departments included Letts, Westport, Marion Township, Burney/Clay Township, Greensburg, Hope, and Hartsville.
