Lady Wildcats Swept By Lady Patriots

The Franklin County Wildcats Softball Team lost a heart breaker in the first game of their doubleheader against Union County by a final score of 8 – 7 in the first game of their doubleheader.

The Wildcats had a few early errors in the game which allowed the Patriots to take the early lead, but the team battled back multiple times throughout the contest. After five innings the Wildcats found themselves down 1-5 and down to their final six outs of the game. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, Anne Becker provided the big swing to tie the game.

After stringing together three consecutive hits to begin the inning and cut the lead to three runs, it looked like the Patriots might control the damage after recording back-to-back strikeouts to get the first two outs of the inning. But with two outs in the inning, Anne Becker blasted a 2-2 pitch over the center field fence to tie the game at five.

Not to be outdone, the Patriots also had a big home run in the top of the seventh to retake the lead at 8-5 by a three-run homer off the bat of Shelby Hill. The Wildcats would try to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but could only must two runs and Franklin County’s comeback would fall short.
