Saturday afternoon heard on WRBI, the Franklin County girls held off a fourth quarter rally by South Ripley to win 32-29.

The Lady Wildcats led 17-9 at halftime.  The Lady Raiders came back to tie the game at 29-all on a Rachel Meyer shot with under 40 seconds left.  But Franklin County’s Kassidy Schell hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final 27 seconds to provide the three-point margin of victory.

Schell led the Wildcats with 10 points. Teammate Macy Crain scored seven.  For South Ripley, both Rachel Meyer and Gracie Gunter logged eight points.  The two also combined for 19 rebounds.

Both teams struggled offensively hitting a combined 22 percent from the floor. But the Cats got the better of the Raiders at the line making 14-of-20. Ripley hit 7-of-12.

Franklin County had a plus-seven advantage on the glass but that was offset as South Ripley had five fewer turnovers.

We thank Franklin County AD Denny Dorrel for the accommodations and hospitality along with coaches Kyle Van Meter and Matt McNew for their time and information.
