The EC Lady Trojans JV and Varsity Volleyball teams traveled to Southport High School for their annual invitational on Saturday.
JV finished as runners up, going 2-0 in pool play (Scecina & Lutheran) and losing in the championship to a very strong Tri-West team.
Varsity went 2-0 in pool play defeating Scecina 25-14 and 25-21 and Lutheran 25-22 and 25-13.
‘We were a little up and down in pool play, as you can see by the scores. Luckily our highs outnumbered our lows and we pulled out the wins in straight sets. The girls did a great job playing together and not getting down when things weren’t going our way.’ Trojans Coach Cassie Laker.
After a break and some rest, we played for the championship against the host team, Southport. We defeated them 25-22 and 25-16 to go 3-0 on the day and bring the trophy home to EC.
Coach Laker also pointed out ‘It was a total team effort all day. This team works very hard and we have a deep enough bench that the girls are constantly pushing themselves to ensure they don’t leave the court. I’m proud of these girls for defeating some very strong teams in straight sets. ‘
