Batesville traveled to East Central on Wednesday night to face South Dearborn in Sectional 26 winning 2-0.
The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Knights battled for the first 60 minutes without a goal being scored. Batesville outshot South Dearborn 15-4 in the first half.
In the second half, Batesville calmed down and controlled the majority of the possession and started to find gaps in the Lady Knight defense. With 20 minutes to play, Batesville was able to score on a corner kick. Kira Hertel placed a perfect ball bending toward goal and Morgan Puente beat the South Dearborn keeper to the ball to finish off the corner. 5 minutes later, Mary Elizabeth Elkins took a free kick and the ball was bouncing in the box until Puente finished it into the back of the net. This marked Puenteís second goal of the game and 11th on the season.
“Morgan continues to give us a lift off the bench and tonight she carried us on her back. She worked hard every minute she was in the game and was rewarded for her hard work. Our defense did a great job stopping all of South Dearborn’s counter-attacks.” Batesville Coach Kyle Laker.
