The Batesville Lady Bulldog Varsity Softball team defeated Franklin County last night by the score of 9-2.
The Bulldogs batted for 15 hits (9 singles, 5 doubles and a home run) to earn their 4th win of the season and 2nd in the EIAC.
The Bulldogs were looking to prove they were a better team than the one that let the game slip to the Wildcats in Batesville on April 11th when they gave up the lead in the 7th inning.
The Bulldogs took an early lead when Oldham’s hard hit ground ball went between the legs of a Wildcat shortstop scoring Belter.
An error by the Bulldogs on a steal by the Wildcats tied the game in the 2nd inning.
The Bulldogs took the lead again in the 4th inning by after Burkhart and Westerfeld both hit 2 RBI doubles.Westerfeld advanced another run home with an RBI single in the 6th inning. Schaefer followed with a 2 RBI double.Laker ended the scoring for the Bulldogs, driving a 1-2 pitch over the right field fence for her 1st home run of the season.
Paige Oldham pitched 7 innings giving up 3 hits, a walk and striking out 2 with zero earned runs.
Biggs, Westerfeld, Schaefer, Burkhart, Belter Waechter, and Laker all had multiple hits in the game. Westerfeld led in RBIs with 3.
Laker led the defense and finished the game with 6 put outs.
The Bulldogs move to 4-9 on the season, and 2-7 in the EIAC with the win.

The JV Lady Bulldogs traveled to Franklin County Tuesday evening and were defeated by a score of 13-6. Mental mistakes and errors plagued the Lady Bulldogs in the first inning as they gave up 12 runs and couldn’t recover.
Morgan Biggs, Sarah Ripperger, Sophie Lee, and Courtney Chambers all had a hit a piece on the evening. The six runs were spread out for the Lady Bulldogs as Anna Gerth, Gwen Martin, Ripperger, Lee, Ainsley Phipps, and Shelby Weiler all came around to score.
Biggs and Phipps combined to go the distance in the circle for the Bulldogs.
Batesville JV Softball will next be in action Friday evening as they will travel to Rushville. First pitch will be immediately following the varsity game.
