Kedrowitz convicted on both counts in double-murder trial

The older brother of 11-month-old Nathaniel Ritz (left) and two-year-old Desiree McCartney was found guilty by a jury in Ripley Circuit Court on both murder counts in connection with their 2017 deaths.

VERSAILLES, IN — A jury in Ripley Circuit Court on Friday evening convicted 17-year-old Nickalas Kedrowitz on both counts in his double-murder trial.

The teen was tried as an adult in the killing of two younger siblings at a home on Maple Street in Osgood back in 2017. Two-year-old Desiree McCartney and 11-month-old Nathaniel Ritz were smothered 80 days apart.

The trial lasted five days and ended when the jury returned the guilty verdicts on both counts after just over six hours of deliberations.

Kedrowitz faces 45 to 65 years in prison on each murder count when he is sentenced. He is not eligible for the death penalty because of his age.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 10 at 1 pm in Ripley Circuit Court.
