Joseph C. Stirn

Joseph C. Stirn, age 53 of Batesville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.  Born September 26, 1964 in Batesville, he is the son of Betty (Nee: Karbowski) and Richard Stirn.  Joe married Kimberly Ryse on April 21, 1990 at Union Baptist Church in Greensburg.  He was the Facility Operations Manager at Main Source Bank for 32 years as well as a member of St. Louis Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #1461, the Knights of St. John Commandery #243 and the Oldenburg Conservation Club.

To say Joe was an avid fisherman would be an understatement.  In addition to his job at the bank, he was also co-owner of the Stirn Bait & Tackle Shop for nearly 15 years and was also responsible for starting the annual Knights of Columbus Fishing Derby.  A selfless individual, Joe had a heart of gold and believed that family was very important.  His family shared that he would donate his vacation time at work to others who were in need.  They also indicated he was a good cook whose fudge, sweet hot mustard and salsa will surely be missed.

He is survived by his wife Kim; sons Ethan and Aaron, both of Batesville; brothers Tim (Betsy), Paul (Dolly), Mark (Edie), Dave (Beth) and Andy (Susie), all of Batesville; sisters Carol (Mike) Voegele of Centerville, Ohio, Beth (Fred) Barger of Dillsboro, Indiana, Patty (Don) Kohlman of Batesville, Donna Salyer of Batesville; mother-in-law Jerelyn Koester of Greensburg; brother-in-law Mike Koester of Greensburg and sister-in-law Kelly (Brian) Land of Sandusky, Ohio.  In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his father-in-law Paul Koester.

Visitation is Tuesday, June 5th, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home.  Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6th at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family requests memorials to the Batesville Boy Scouts or the Oldenburg Conservation Club.
