John W. Farrell, Rexville

 

John W. Farrell, 76, of Rexville passed away at 6:40 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2026 at the Norton Healthcare Pavillion in Louisville. He was born near Rexville on December 31, 1949, the son of Carl and Louise Housefield Farrell. Survivors include one son Shawn (Angie) Farrell of Holton; two daughters Misty McNeelan of Holton and Casey Farrell of Rexville; 8 grandchildren; one brother Richard (Tina) Farrell of Versailles; one sister Viola (Steve) Cappel of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Donald, Chester, Jimmy, Henry, and David Farrell, and his sisters Naomi Hubbard, Goldina Brock, and Lula White. Mr. Farrell was a 1968 graduate of South Ripley High School. John’s working career spanned many years as he worked as a supervisor at the Muscatatuck State School as well as a ground supervisor at the Madison State Hospital. He enjoyed his garden, collecting arrowheads, hunting, and was an avid fisherman, always careful not to reveal his best fishing holes. John’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, October 16 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at the Shelby Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
