John ‘Jack’ Edwards Combs

John “Jack” Edwards Combs at age 92. Born into this life August 5, 1926 in Arlington Heights, Ohio.  Born into eternal life August 29, 2018 in Batesville, Indiana.

Celebrated 63 years of marriage with Sandra Combs (nee St. John) before her passing.  Devoted father of daughters Cheryl Seckel (Keith), Joni Meigs (Doug), and Randi Combs (John Howard).  Treasured father of sons Mark Combs (Barb Ewald deceased), Sean Combs (Debby), and Rev. Ronald Combs.  Doting Bop of Joanna (Matt), Tiffany (Ben), John (Jennifer), Hannah, Nicholas, Brad (Becky), Cali, Julie, Benjamin, Anna and Ross.  Dear great-grandfather of Kathryn, Connor, Maddie, Alaina, Lauren, Macie, Colin and Ryder.  Much-loved uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by two brother and one sister.

The Combs family extends its gratitude to several people of Batesville, Indiana for the many hours they spent visiting Jack at home and St. Andrews.  Likewise, we are grateful for countless others from the Batesville area, as well as from Cincinnati and Carrollton, Kentucky for their years of friendship.  Similarly, we thank all of Jack’s doctors, nurses and caregivers for their kind and gentle care.

Jack was a man of solid faith and trust in God, lived a life worth emulating, and had a ready smile for all.  He never met a stranger, was quick to laugh, and ready to banter.  His passion for firefighting started as a volunteer at 16 and continued until he retired as the Chief Fire Prevention Officer for the City of Springdale, OH at age 65.  The outdoors, especially fishing, and Cincinnati sports teams were his favorite pastimes, and a source of peace and frustration, respectively.  He had too many pets to count, but each one brought him unmeasured companionship, especially Chelsea.  His active involvement in AA for nearly 45 years was honored by his Batesville group, when they designated his birthday as the group’s anniversary date.

Visitation at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 9:00-10:30am.  Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00am at St. Louis Church, Batesville.  Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati.
