JD was a 1952 graduate of Aurora High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriner Club, and Korean War Veterans, where he served as commander for many years. JD and his brother, Tommy, were honored for their service as “Hometown Heroes” at a Cincinnati Reds game on July 24, 2018.

Throughout his working career, JD was employed by Monsanto and the Dillsboro Post Office and was co-owner of Iron City Beer.

He and Donna especially enjoyed splitting wood together. In his younger years, JD and his wife, Donna, rode motorcycles and logged thousands of miles on the road. He owned many vintage cars over the years and enjoyed attending local car shows. JD also loved auctions and yard sales, always searching for a hidden treasure.
