A jogger came across the scene of a fatal car crash on State Road 46 west of Spades Rd. on Monday.
Around 9:30 a.m., an individual jogging along the road noticed a 2008 Toyota Corolla that had apparently crashed into the ditch.
Authorities arrived on the scene and discovered the driver, Kristen J. Duncan, 48, of Batesville, was deceased inside the vehicle.
Investigators believe the crash occurred around 11 p.m. on Sunday. A nearby resident told police they heard a noise around that time but thought it was fireworks.
Troopers say the car was traveling westbound on S.R. 46 when it ran off the roadway, went through some trees and crashed head on into a culvert. Police added that Duncan did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by Indiana Conservation Officers, Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Sunman Fire and Rescue, Ripley County Medic, and the Ripley County Coroner’s Office.
