Joel Canterbury Jr. April 30, 1948 – March 20, 2020

Joel Canterbury Jr., age 71 of West Harrison, Indiana passed away Friday, March 20, 2020. Born April 30, 1948 in Lenore, West Virginia the son of Joel and Elizabeth (Evans) Canterbury.

Joel served his country in Vietnam from December 1968 to December 1969

Joel was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army serving as a track commander with H-Troop 17th Calvary (Hellcats) in Chu Lai Vietnam. Joel was awarded 3 purple hearts and The Bronze star medal for bravery during his tour.

Joel was not only a hero during war but was a hero to every member of his family.

Survived by his loving children Joel Canterbury III of West Harrison Indiana, Kay (Damien) Canterbury Powell of Valley Grove W.V. and Kevin (Patty) Canterbury of Moores Hill Indiana. Grandfather of Aysia Canterbury of East Palestine Ohio, Cassidy Crowl of Petersburg Michigan, Cameron Crowl of Triadelphia W.V., Hunter Canterbury of East Palestine Ohio, Raquel Canterbury of East Palestine Ohio, Kennedy Powell of Valley Grove W.V. and Preslie Powell of Valley Grove W.V. Great Grandfather of Ryan Alexander Baker, Willow Grace Crowl and Beau Lee Crowl. Brother of John (Janie) Canterbury of Lenore W.V. and Florence (Bryant) Canterbury of Lenore W.V.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Preceded in death by his parents Joel and Elizabeth Canterbury, Loving wife Linda (Snelbaker) Canterbury, siblings Timothy Canterbury, Elizabeth Canterbury, Sally (Adkins) Canterbury, Jane (Garwood) Canterbury, Mae (McGraw) Canterbury, Vicie (Dillon) Canterbury, Sarah (Hall) Canterbury and Dorothy (Bingle) Canterbury.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2020 for only immediate family and close personal friends at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Shawn Crisman officiating all at Jackman Hensley Funeral Home 215 Broadway Street Harrison, Ohio 45030. Burial will be held at a later date at family cemetery in Lenore, West Virginia and will be announced.
