Joan Bulach Hoffmeier, 86 years old, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024. Born at home in St. Leon, Joan attended St. John’s grade school in Dover and graduated from Guilford High School. For many years, she worked at the US Shoe Company in Harrison, OH and after retirement served as a cook at St. Paul’s School in New Alsace. Joan enjoyed tending to the many flowers in her garden, producing beautiful tulips in the spring and roses in the summer. She and her husband, Robert “Red” Hoffmeier, spent time riding and grooming their horses and some of Joan’s best friends were her dogs Annie & Dixie. Joan was a great cook and baker and was especially known for her coleslaw and sweet potato pie. Friends visiting their home knew it was a good bet that Joan would send them on their way with one of her famous pies that she kept stocked in the freezer. Joan & Red’s house was always full of family and friends, and they looked forward to hosting Christmas Day for the entire family every year.
Joan will be deeply missed by her sisters Betty Ripperger and Ellen Bulach, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert “Red” Hoffmeier, siblings Ruth Gaynor, Margie Kunkel, Clifford Bulach, and Wilma Jansing; and parents Joseph and Mary Kappes Bulach.
Services for Joan will be held on Thursday, January 25 at St. Martin’s Campus of All Saints Parish. Rosary will begin at 9:45am with visitation following until Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11:30am. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. For those unable to attend, Mass will be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/user/aspweeklyhomily.
