There’s been a bit of a shakeup in local high school basketball.  A new head boys’ coach has been hired at Greensburg, someone about as solid a Pirate as possible.  That young man is current baseball assistant and Dean of Students, Collin Rigney.  He played for the Pirates’ back-to-back state championship hoops teams of 2013 & 14, and graduated Ball State in ’18.  Rigney’s just wrapping up his first year as Dean for his alma mater, and was an assistant for a time when current Athletic Director Stacy Meyer was head coach.  Meyer says he looks forward to a smooth transition.  Former Coach Shaun Busick, who guided the Pirates to a good 18 & 8 record this past season, has had his retirement accepted by the school board this week.

More sectional tournament diamond action is on tap tonight.  One of last night’s results leads into tonight’s lineup, as Jac-Cen-Del’s Eagle girls beat Waldron Monday, 13-4.  That puts the Eagles up against the Oldenburg Academy Twisters tonight, our first game of the evening on the air, pregame coverage starting at 5:45.  Tonight’s second game has Brown County visiting Milan.  That one begins around 7:30 this evening.  Last night’s other contests weren’t much in the way of contests, North Decatur eliminating South Decatur 16-0, and Franklin County taking out Batesville, 11-1.

Other softball games tonight include South Dearborn and Lawrenceburg, East Central up against Columbus North, and Greensburg taking on Connersville.

The Reds are back in Cincinnati tonight after their western road trip, and one of those teams, the Padres, tagged along.  We’ll join the network broadcast when softball wraps up this evening on 103.9 FM, WRBI.

Monday was a day to dial in race setup at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  A total of 2,655 laps were turned by the 33-car field.  Those putting in the most laps were Tom Blomqvist (106), Christian Rasmussen (100), Felix Rosenqvist (99), and Colton Herta (96). The top speed on the day belonged to Josef Newgarden, at 226.238 miles an hour.  His Team Penske colleague Will Power ran the 3rd-quickest speed at 226.137.

The NBA postseason’s going into the Eastern Conference finals Game 1 tonight, the Pacers coming off a strong performance against the Knicks in semi-final Game 7 in New York.  Indiana will need all its best men in place, and running positions, in Game 1 of the best of 7 against the Celtics in Boston.  Tonight’s game tips at 8:00.
