We welcomed someone special, besides the coaches, to WRBI’s Coaches Corner last night… Milan grappler Kayla Roell joined us, to talk a little about her 4th-place finish in the 115-pound division of Indiana’s first girls’ wrestling tournament last weekend. The sophomore credits supportive male teammates for much of her success, and Coach Adrian Wilburn says Kayla’s up to any challenge. Kayla’s also, as only a high school sophomore, an accomplished sprint car racer, taking those dirt tracks at about 130 miles an hour, behind engines as big as 900 horsepower. You can hear my entire interview with Kayla and Coach Wilburn in our story about her, on the Local Sports page of WRBIradio.com.

Coming up tonight, there’s plenty of high school basketball, and for a second straight week, we’ll have five straight days of broadcasts, beginning tonight with the Jac-Cen-Del Eagle boys visiting Franklin County. Local girls’ hoops tonight will feature South Decatur hosting Edinburgh, Lawrenceburg going to East Central, South Ripley at South Dearborn, Switzerland County visiting Jac-Cen-Del, and Warren Central at Greensburg.

Men’s college basketball has a new Number 1 squad after Purdue’s loss last week knocked it down to the 2nd spot. The new top dogs are the Huskies of Connecticut… behind Purdue, Kansas is 3rd this week, followed by North Carolina and Houston in the Top 5.

A special midday holiday game Monday went to Michigan, topping Ohio State in the Big 10, 73 to 65. Tonight, UC hosts TCU, the second-ranked Boilers visiting the Hoosiers, and Butler & Xavier squaring off on the Musketeers’ home court.
