It was a memorable weekend of girls’ high school basketball playoff action on WRBI, with semifinal games Friday, and the championships Saturday.

Those sectional title contests had Greensburg topping Batesville 41-22 in Class 3A, ending the Bulldogs’ season with a record of 16 wins versus 10 losses.  The Pirates’ mark is now an impressive 21 & 4, and their current win streak is 9 games.

In 2A, North Decatur beat South Ripley, 57-39.    The Raiders’ campaign concludes at 14 & 9.  And the 1A title game was taken by Jac-Cen-Del, the Eagles’ ending the Oldenburg Academy Twisters’ ’23-’24 year.  JCD moves ahead, currently holding the same 20 & 5 record OA finishes the season with.

Now, the 3 sectional champs go on to the Regionals this Saturday, the 10th.  Greensburg’s Pirates will face the  Scottsburg Warriors at 4:00 that afternoon in Charlestown.  The North Decatur Chargers take on the Miners from Linton-Stockton in Campbellsburg, also at 4.  Then, at 7:00 Saturday evening, it’ll be the Eagles of Jac-Cen-Del against Eminence, probably the first high school you’ve ever heard of that’s named its teams the “Eels.”  Y’know, those slippery, dangerous, possibly electrically charged, snakes in the ocean?  Eels.  That game’s being played at Shelby County’s Southwestern High.

So Saturday afternoon and evening, following a regular-season boys’ contest between East Central and Batesville that tips at 1:30, the girls’ regionals will go like this–  we’ll open the North Decatur/Linton-Stockton broadcast around 3:45 in advance of the 4:00 tipoff, then a little while after that game ends, we’ll bring you pregame coverage of the Eagles and Eels, beginning about 6:45, for a 7:00 opening tip.  Hear it all, live, on 103.9 FM, here at WRBIRadio.com, and on the new WRBI app.

Remember, while the girls are steadily marching toward semi-state and the state tournament itself, boys’ basketball is still in its regular season, and WRBI isn’t ignoring the guys at all.  Tuesday night, it’ll be Milan at North Decatur beginning around 7:15 for a 7:30 tip.  Then the same timing will apply to Thursday’s Rushville-Batesville and Friday’s South Dearborn-South Ripley game broadcasts.

The boys’ regular season continued this past weekend too, the Saturday results including Batesville narrowly beating Madison on the road, 53-49…  Greensburg topping Jac-Cen-Del 59-45…  Oldenburg Academy twisting Milan 67-53, it was South Decatur over Rising Sun 69-58, and Franklin County narrowly slipped past Edinburgh, 52-48.

For everything on the high school ranks from the adults heading their programs, join Terrance Arney for Coaches’ Corner, tonight at 6:00, live from Ison’s Family Pizza in downtown Batesville.  You’re invited to stop by for delicious food, along with riveting discussions.  6:00 this evening, it’s Coaches’ Corner, exclusively on WRBI 103.9 FM, and here on WRBIRadio.com.

Men’s college basketball featured a major Big 10 contest Sunday–  Second-ranked Purdue’s Boilermakers battling past Number 6 Wisconsin in Madison, 75-69.  Saturday it was UC with a slight upset over 15th-rated Texas Tech 75-72…  Xavier clobbering DePaul 93-68 in Chicago…  Penn State topping the Hoosiers in Bloomington 85-71… the Ball State Cards beating Western Michigan 77-67 on the road… and Indiana State defeating Drake 75-67.

And NBA play Sunday saw the Pacers go to Charlotte to sting the Hornets, 115 to 99.  Tomorrow night the Pacers will be back in Indy, hosting the Houston Rockets.
