It’s another big sports Saturday for us at WRBI, and hopefully for you, too!

Girls’ high school basketball is in its post-season, and what games we’ve seen so far!  Sectional tournament play has been underway this week, and wouldn’t you know it?  The teams we’re privileged to cover the most have been winning the most, sometimes defeating their local friends and neighbors!

In Class 1A, a pair of our squads were battling, and the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles got all they could handle from South Decatur’s Knights Friday evening.  It went back and forth, then the Eagles went ahead late, and they concluded the Knights’ season 49-43.  Jac-Cen-Del is in the Section 60 championship game in Shelby County tonight, facing another club they’re very familiar with, the Twisters of Oldenburg Academy.  The Twisters spun up their 19th win of the season in the semis Friday, knocking off Morristown, 62-47.  The title game that sends one of them to the regionals tips tonight at 7:00.

There’s plenty more action before and after that game, and we’ll broadcast 2 of those games for you this evening.  In Class 2A, the Milan Indians faced the Chargers of North Decatur Friday, and as good an effort as the Indians gave, the Chargers were a bit too much for them, North Decatur advancing with a final score of 55-34.  That put North into tonight’s Section 45 title match against South Ripley’s Raiders, which tips off at 6:00.  South Ripley had to scrap hard to get past a tough Switzerland County team last night, 52-45.

The Class 3A Section 29 championship wraps things up tonight, as the 16-win Batesville Bulldogs face the 20-win Greensburg Pirates for the 3rd time this season.  Greensburg’s won those 2 previous meetings by 13 and 22 points, but this is the time of year when anything can happen.  The Pirates topped Lawrenceburg by 12 Friday on the Tigers’ home floor Friday, 56-44, and the ‘Dawgs eliminated the Connersville Spartans, also by 12, 40-28.  Their game tips around 7:30.

So we’ll have a double-header for you again tonight, in games that’ll send two teams of locals on to the regionals, our coverage beginning about 5:45.  Please join us live for both, on 103.9 FM, at WRBIRadio.com, or on the new WRBI app.

Men’s college basketball last night had Butler’s Bulldogs barely upsetting the 13th-ranked BlueJays of Creighton, in Omaha, 99-98, and Iowa’s Hawkeyes did the same in Iowa City, edging Ohio State, 79-77.  Tonight, UC’s Bearcats visit the #15 Red Raiders of Texas Tech, Xavier drops in on DePaul, Ball State’s Cards try to ride the Broncos of Western Michigan, the Hoosiers host Penn State, and Drake visits ISU’s Sycamores in Terre Haute.

In the NBA Friday, the Pacers got home from a New York road loss, only to lose again in Indy to the Sacramento Kings, 133-122.  The Pacers will be off today, then visit the Charlotte Hornets tomorrow.
