The new head girls’ basketball coach at Jac-Cen-Del High is familiar to many Eagles’ fans–  it was announced Tuesday on social media that alumna Lilly Simon will be picking up that mantle, succeeding her own Coach, Scott Smith.  Smith stepped down in late February, after the semi-state loss to eventual Class 1A state champion Lanesville.  Simon had been on his staff as an assistant for a while.  She graduated JCD in 2018, and had been an All-State basketballer herself, a member of the Eagles’ 2016 state championship squad.  She’s the 2nd all-time leading scorer at the school, with 1479 points, and played her college basketball at the University of Findlay, Ohio.  Congratulations to one of the younger head coaches around, Lilly Simon.

It ended up being a tough major league baseball loss last night, but not before there was some 9th-inning hope for the Reds.  Trailing 3-1, Cincinnati saw the Mariners walk the bases loaded, with Elly de la Cruz on 1st.  But a fly ball caught in the outfield brought it all to an end, and 3-1 was the final. So the Reds have lost the first 2 games of their series in Seattle.  Starting pitcher Hunter Greene struck out 8 Mariner batters through 4 innings of 1-run ball, but it just wasn’t enough to keep going all game, so Cincinnati’s season record is now 9 & 8.  The series wraps up this afternoon, and the Reds broadcast begins for you at 3:40, only on the radio, on the Sports Voice, 103.9 FM, WRBI.

The early week’s good weather has let local high schools get a ton of ball in on the diamonds.  Softball saw Lawrenceburg’s Tigers shut out Batesville 8-0 Tuesday.  East Central was in an offensive shootout at Mason, Ohio, yet Mason won its first of the season, 15-12.  Southwestern of Hanover whacked South Decatur 16-2…  Greensburg stayed undefeated, blanking North Decatur 9-0…  and Jac-Cen-Del defeated Oldenburg Academy, the final 12-6.

Baseball’s Tuesday results included Greenwood Christian knocking off Oldenburg Academy 6-3…  Jac-Cen-Del moved past .500 to a 4 & 3 record with its 13-3 smackdown of Waldron…  Greensburg put it on Hauser 10-4…  and Milan picked up its 2nd win of the season, dropping Switzerland County 13-9.

Baseball today will feature South Dearborn going to Rushville, and Shawe Memorial will be at South Decatur.  Wednesday softball means Franklin County taking its 5 & 1 record to South Dearborn.

And a few schools have both games happening at the same place at the same time.  Milan’s diamond squads will both be in Hanover today, facing Southwestern, North Decatur will host both teams from Edinburgh, and South Ripley’s will both be at Rising Sun.
