Jerry Lee Whitham, 70, of Rising Sun

Jerry Lee Whitham, 70, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Tuesday, November 21st, 2023 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jerry was born on September 22, 1953, the son of the late Hazel (Jackson) Whitham and Leon Whitham. Jerry grew up in Ohio County and was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1971. After graduation, Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. He was a member of the 8th Infantry Division. Jerry worked as an Iron Worker for over 30 years and was a member of Iron Workers Local #372. His nickname among his work buddies was “Quiet Earp”. He was always a farmer at heart and loved the country life at his family farm in Rising Sun. He had a herd of cattle and was always busy in the summer cutting hay with his prized John Deere tractor. Jerry enjoyed playing golf with his son Paul and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He was always there for his family when needed. He also liked listening to live music and going to see bands play with his girlfriend, Stacy. Jerry loved to travel, especially to the Smoky Mountains. 

Jerry is survived by his son, Paul Whitham II of Rising Sun, IN; by his daughter, Jessica Esposito, and husband Damian, of Rising Sun, IN; by his grandchildren, Anthony and Morgan Esposito and by his girlfriend, Stacy Schmidt, of Cincinnati, OH. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, grandfather, Paul Whitham, and his sister Connie Johnson.
 
Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 26th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 26th at Markland Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be at 11 AM, Monday, November 27th at the Rising Sun New Cemetery.
