Jerald Lee Vaughan, 79, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, in Brookville, Indiana.
He was born April 28, 1944, in Milan, Indiana, the oldest of four children, to Cecil and Anna May Vaughan. Jerry graduated from North Dearborn High School in 1962. An athlete, Jerry was inducted into the East Central Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1961-1962 North Dearborn basketball team.
After attending Indiana University for two years, he served as a Personnel Specialist in Germany during the Vietnam Era and received an Honorable discharge as a SP5 (E5). He earned the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and shot Expert on the rifle.
Jerry started his career in 1967 with Cincinnati Incorporated when it was still named the Cincinnati Shaper Company and retired after 42 years in January 2009. A favorite memory for Jerry’s children was the summer picnic when Cincinnati Incorporated opened the manufacturing floor, set up carnival rides, and had games on the company grounds.
He married Linda Dale (Beckman) on August 3, 1968, and continued their love affair throughout their 55 years of marriage. During the early years of their marriage, Jerry pursued his education at the University of Cincinnati, where he graduated in 1978 with a degree in Information Processing. Wickedly smart, Jerry sought out new hobbies constantly, from purely intellectual interests such as chess and choosing stocks, to physically demanding endeavors such as building furniture and rehabbing a house.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Linda; nine children: Tamara (Dan) Leeks of Seattle, WA, Christina (Johann) Perera of Sharonville, OH, Heather (Willie) Burroughs of Florence, SC, Jeremy Vaughan of Tijeras, NM, Joshua Vaughan of Fort Myers, FL, Logan Vaughan of Longview, WA, Autumn (Reggie) Ward of Rincon, GA, Jeremiah Vaughan of Florence, SC, and Zachariah (Ashley) Vaughan of Epping, NH; and 17 grandchildren: Nathaniel and Isabella Leeks, Nicholas, Emma, Christopher, and Victoria Perera, Kaleb and Kaylanna Burroughs, Owen, Opal, and Oakley Vaughan, Jude Vaughan, Noah and Ophelia Vaughan, Adelaide and Tiberius Ward, and Orrick Vaughan. He is also survived by his sisters Ruby Drew, Connie (Lloyd) Fledderman, and Donna (Randy) Franklin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil & Anna May Vaughan, his in laws, Loren Dale & Ruby Beckman, a brother-in-law, Ron Whitacre, and a sister-in-law, Melody Jackson.
Private services will be held for the family. Interment with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion will take place in Creekside Cemetery in Klemmes Corner.
