(Jennings County, IN) – The Jennings County Sheriff is in hot water following a six-month Indiana State Police investigation into stolen campaign signs.

A grand jury indicted Kenny Freeman on two misdemeanor counts of Theft, and one felony count each of Official Misconduct, Perjury, and Obstruction of Justice (all Level 6).

Investigators say a rival sheriff candidate tracked a stolen sign using a GPS locator, which led troopers to a dumpster on Freeman’s property last November.

Freeman turned himself in Monday morning at the Ripley County Jail and was released on his own recognizance.

He waived his right to an initial hearing. A pre-trial date will be set by the Court.

Because the investigation involved a current sheriff, Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens and Ripley Superior Court Judge Jeff Sharp were appointed to oversee the case.
