Jeff Schmeltzer

Jeffery “Bam Bam” Dale Schmeltzer, age 49, born July 17, 1970, passed away the morning of Sunday, February 2, 2020 from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Jeff was surrounded by family during his peaceful passing. He was fortunate to have so many friends visit him during his fight and especially during his last week. Jeff was a carpenter and tile setter by trade. He loved fishing, frog gigging, corn hole, darts, horse shoes and golf. He was also a whiz at puzzles and the family master of Quiddlar. From work to sports to play, Jeff excelled in everything he did. Shortly after he was diagnosed, Jeff began doing puzzles. During the time spent with Jeff, his family helped work on his puzzles. Amidst hundreds and sometimes thousands of pieces, Jeff could just point to a random puzzle piece and tell you right where to put it. Jeff also became a champ at a card game called Quiddler, which later became a staple during family visits. It was on rare occasion that anyone ever beat him. Jeffery loved the Cincinnati Bengals, UC Bearcats as well as his classic, red 1976 Jeep CJ5.
Jeffery will be deeply missed by his loving parents Loren “Hank” and Barbara Schmeltzer, and siblings George (Charity) Schmeltzer, Chuck (Kathy) Schmeltzer, Susie (Jason) Orndorff, Lisa (Mike) Hempfling, Theresa (Kevin) Meadows, Jennifer Schmeltzer (Jeffery’s twin) and June (Tom) Brackett. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly as well as many, many relatives and wonderful friends.
Visitation for Jeff will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 4:00 – 7:00pm at All Saints Parish Life Center in St. Leon, IN. Mass will be on Friday, February 7 at St. John’s Campus at 11:00am. Memorials can be made to the ALS Association. To sign the online guest book or offer condolences please visit www.andres-wuestefeldfh.com.
