Jeanette M. “Nettie” Litmer

Jeanette M. “Nettie” Litmer, age 88 of Enochsburg, died Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at her home. Born November 3, 1931 in Covington, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Loretta (Nee: Anthe) and William Fisher. She married Alfred “Tom” Litmer October 21, 1950 at St. John’s Church in Enochsburg and he preceded her in death January 13, 2010. Nettie was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish at Enochsburg (formerly St. John’s Church) and spent 10 years as a bookkeeper for Hillenbrand Industries and 15 years working at the Fireside Inn Restaurant.

An excellent cook, everything she made was good and a lot of people have enjoyed her beef and noodles over the years. Nettie never paid to much attention to recipes but rather would add a “little of this and a pinch of that.” She also crocheted quite a bit and liked working crossword puzzles. She had a green thumb, tending to her flowers and a raising a large garden every year. Her porch was filled with beautiful blooms during the summer and at the end of the growing season for the garden, she would put up several hundred quarts of fruits and vegetables to share with other family members.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Terri Litmer of Enochsburg; sister Carol Ann Litmer of Enochsburg; grandson Jacob Robinson of Shelbyville, Indiana and granddaughter Claire Litmer of Enochsburg. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Marjorie Litmer.

Due to the Governor’s mandate of gatherings being limited to 10 people, a private graveside service will be held Friday at St. Catherine of Siena’s Enochsburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Catherine of Siena’s Enochsburg Parish Building Fund or to the Ripley County Humane Society and sent to the funeral home in care of the family.
