Janet Mary (Sturwold) Gunter, 77 of Batesville, Indiana passed away at The Chateau of Batesville on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. Janet was born on December 17, 1945 in Batesville and was the daughter of the late William & Mary Sturwold. She married Kendall Gunter on September 21, 1963 in Penntown, Indiana. Janet was a member of the Adams Lutheran Church.
Janet and Ken raised six children on their farm and they were married 51 years. They had a special bond and always worked side by side. Over the years Janet baked and cooked many amazing meals for her family. Her specialty was pie. She had a large garden for many years and enjoyed canning. She loved being outdoors, taking care of the horses, mowing grass, and helping with the excavating business. Janet met many people over the years while handling the bookwork for the business and selling furnace parts. She always had a story to tell. Janet and Ken enjoyed camping with family and friends. Janet loved everyone, giving hugs, and telling them she loved them. Over the last year, Janet made many new friends at the Chateau including the wonderful staff and residents. Janet and her new best friend, Minnie, became as close as family. Janet will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children, Marla (Matt) Nobbe, Darren (Anita) Gunter, Betty (Clarence) Shupe, Steve (Annie Adams) Gunter, Angie (Luke) Pierson, and Rhonda (Dan) Dickman; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren along with her sisters, Mildred (Herb) Lamping and Velma Knecht and sister-in-law, Ruby Sturwold.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kendal Gunter and her brother Earl Sturwold.
Visitation will be Friday, December 8, 2023 from 4-7 pm with a 10:00 am Funeral Service on Saturday, December 9th, all at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will follow in the Adams Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pastor Mark Booster officiating.
