James Henry Lani Acasio

James Henry Lani Acasio, 74, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was born August 2, 1948, in Hoolehua, HI, son of the late Hipolito Acasio and Alice (Lani) DeMello.
He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Friends and family in the mainland affectionately called him Lani (Hawaiian word for Heaven) or Pineapple.

Lani worked in the Maintenance Department for Mount St. Joseph University with over 30 years of dedicated service.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
Lani will be fondly remembered as a loving husband and Papa. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and he was often know for bragging about his kids and grandkids. He loved his Hawaiian culture and enjoyed sharing stories about his childhood and funny stories that often the results from his jokes and pranks, collecting Hawaiian memorabilia and listening to Hawaiian music. He was very generous with his time in helping others whether that was home repairs or mentoring young people in hunting, softball, and the importance of patriotism. He will forever be remembered in our hearts for the laughter, pranks, and love he provided to us all.
Lani is survived by his Ohana (family) which include his loving spouse of 51 years Deborah (Bauer) Acasio; daughters, Anela Nani Acasio Schwier of Greendale, IN and Rachel Naomi Acasio of Greendale, IN; grandsons, Zane, Jack and Owen Schwier; granddaughter, Elise Bostick; siblings, Walter (Kehau) Kaiama of Molokai, HI, Wilfred Demello, Jr. of Maui, HI, Geri Daniels (Amos) of MN, Nora (Lawrence) Molena of Molokai, HI, Rita (Cliff) Yonamine of Oahu, HI, Marylil (Crispin) Tabangcura of Oahu, HI, Joy DeMello of Molokai, HI, and the Bernhard, Bauer and Thielking families, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hipolito Acasio; mother, Alice Demello; siblings, Lawrence Lani, Jessie Acasio, Momi Acasio, Carrie Marie Poaha, Arlyne Acasio-Heinig, and Bonnie Acasio.

Family and friends will be received Friday, March 3, 2023, 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 4937 State Road 48, Lawrenceburg, IN. 47025.

Services will be held at the church at 6:30 pm with Pastor Phil Garber officiating.
Military services will be conducted by the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.
