James Ernest Clements formerly of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on July 25, 2024, at Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg, IN. He was born on May 24, 1932, the youngest child of Oral and Leora (Scroggin) Clements near Moorefield, Indiana. He graduated salutatorian from Vevay High School in 1950 and attended classes at the University of Cincinnati. On June 23, 1950, he married Audry McCutchen in Versailles, IN. He and Audry were married for over 58 years until her passing in 2009. Jim worked at Seagram’s briefly and then at the Fernald Nuclear Materials Production Plant in Fernald, Ohio until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement, Jim worked for 2 years at Fernald as a subcontractor providing technical services to the Department of Energy. He was one of the founders and served as vice president for the Southeastern Indiana Regional Foundation, served as president of the Rising Sun Redevelopment Committee, and was a member of the Rising Sun Rotary. An avid traveler, Jim vacationed in all 50 states and Canada and visited every county in Indiana.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Alice Harper of Lawrenceburg, IN, and Bev Garrett of Columbia City, IN; by his son, Ron (Paula) Clements of Milan, IN; by two granddaughters, Jessica West of Waynesboro, MS, and Beth (Kevin) Keegan of West Lafayette, IN; by six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audry, his parents, his sister, Marie Denning, and sons-in-law, Terry Harper and Ed Garrett.
Public visitation will be from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Burial will be at Vevay Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. marklandfuneralhome.com
