Jack Leroy Oak, 88, of Dillsboro passed away peacefully with family at his home on Saturday, January 4, 2025. He was born March 3, 1936, to Myrtle (Bailey) Oak and William Albert Oak in Ohio County. He married the love of his life, Grace Ann (Turner) Oak on February 18, 1956, and she survives him.
Jack was a perfectionist in his carpentry work, which he took much pride in and many of his wood projects will be cherished for many years to come. Jack was known as “grumpy”, but the most tender-hearted person known whenever needed. Jack’s hobbies were playing euchre, bicycle riding, and going on family vacations. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren and always attended all of their events. Jack was also a member of the Antique Tool Association. He also enjoyed building houses with McKittrick Construction, where he was employed as a carpenter.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife of 68 years, Grace Ann Oak and three daughters Kathy (Lowell) Ransom, Nina Withered, and Susan (Darren) Davies. His legacy will continue through his beloved grandchildren Rachel (Kevin) Hennessey, Drew (Lindsay) Ransom, Jack (Amy) Davies, Sally (Sean) Wert, Elise (Chris) Larcombe, Owen (Katie) Davies, Rhett (Rachel) Ransom, Eli (Elizabeth) Withered, and Conner (Miranda) Davies; as well as 16 great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Myrtle and William Oak; brothers Clinton and Bill Oak; sisters Francis Shelton and Katherine Adams; and son-in-law Zerbe Withered.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Jack from 10:00 AM- 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church: 9901 Central Ave, Dillsboro, IN 47018. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Richard Kolaskey officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Jack to the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department, Trinity Lutheran Church, or Trinity Lutheran Church Care and Concern Fund.
