Jack L. John, age 85, a resident of Milan, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 28th, 2020. He slipped away peacefully at 2:30 in the afternoon at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Indiana. Jack was born in Idaville, Indiana on July 10th, 1935, the youngest of seven children born to Melvin and Urshall Nethercutt John. In the early 1950’s Jack relocated to Indianapolis, serving in the U.S. army from 1957 to 1959. In 1957, he married his wife Flonnie, and they had one son, Bill. In 1976, Jack settled in Milan to be close to his brother Lowell. Jack worked at Hill-Rom until his retirement. He then worked at “Tha Store Café” in Sunman where he very much enjoyed interacting with the customers and entertaining their children. Jack loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener and bird watcher. He loved learning, and was fascinated with the study of outer space. He had a very special bond with his great nephew Evan, whom he thought of as a grandson. They enjoyed hours of talking about nature and outer space together. Jack was a kind and generous man, who loved more than anything, caring for others. Since his brother Lowell’s passing in 2005, Jack had stepped in to help care for his family.
Jack is survived by his son, Bill, of Kansas, and grandson, Michael. He will be deeply missed by sister-and-law Martha John, niece Amy Smith, great nephew Evan Smith, and nieces Teresa Heppner and Jill Taul; nephews Greg John and Kevin John, and several other great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Flonnie. At Jack’s request, there will be no visitation or service.
