Ivy Tech President issues statement on Supreme Court admissions decision

(Indianapolis, IN) – Ivy Tech Community College President Sue Ellspermann is reacting to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on affirmative action and college and university admissions.

“Ivy Tech is an open admissions institution. This decision will not affect our admissions process,” Dr. Ellspermann said. “Ivy Tech will continue our commitment to ensuring all Hoosiers have high-value post-secondary and career opportunities.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the use of race as a factor in college admissions as a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

At issue were admissions policies at Harvard and the University of North Carolina.

The high court ruled 6-3 to reject affirmative action in higher education.
