Ivan W. Eaglin, 92, of Elrod passed away at 4:30am, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born near Farmers Retreat on September 10, 1924 the son of John and Margaret Grabus Eaglin. He was married to Erma Raffignone on July 16, 1949 and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2009. Survivors include two sons Terry (Rita) Eaglin of Versailles, and John (Debbie) Eaglin of Elrod; four grandchildren Mark (Stephanie) Percifield and Mindy (Bryan) Bernhardt both of Clearwater, Florida, Craig (Stacy) Eaglin of Friendship and Corey (Krista) Eaglin of Elrod; 10 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Raymond and Denzil Eaglin, and his sisters Thelma Slayback, Naomi Snyder, and Myrle Goodpaster. Mr. Eaglin was a retired farmer and was a self-employed truck driver. For many years he ran a milk route which encompassed eastern Ripley and western Dearborn Counties as well as parts of Switzerland County which he would then deliver to the Meadow Gold plant in Osgood. He had also been employed with Steadman’s Foundry in Aurora and was a former co-owner of Elrod Grain. Ivan for several years raced go-karts in Westport, Vevay, Rising Sun, and in 1961 was the champion of the Versailles Legion races. He also owned TQ race cars. Ivan was a member of the Washington Baptist Church at Elrod where he served as a trustee. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 26 at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Holt officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery at Elrod. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4pm to 7pm. Memorials may be given to the Washington Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
