It is Severe Weather Preparedness Week

(Statewide) – Gov. Eric Holcomb has proclaimed now through Saturday, March 16 Severe Weather Awareness Week across the state.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) and National Weather Service collaborate to educate Hoosiers about the possibility of severe weather and to be prepared for storms.

“We experience severe weather frequently, but we cannot overlook how we prepare for these storms. Check in with your family members, make sure they know what to do and when to do it if a storm approaches,”  said IDHS Emergency Management and Preparedness Director Mary Moran.

IDHS urges families, schools and workplaces to make tornado safety plans, which can be practiced during the statewide tornado drill set for tomorrow (Tuesday, March 12) at 10:15 a.m. The drill will be broadcast as an Emergency Alert System (EAS) on radio and television.

The agency will share severe weather safety tips on social media this week.
