(Versailles, IN) – Indiana State Police troopers at the Versailles Post are out with a warning about a church gift card scam making its way through the area.
Troopers say scammers are accessing church directories and contacting people, pretending to be the church’s pastor.
They request the purchase of gift cards to give to the so-called pastor to send to people in need.
ISP says scammers often prey on people who are generous and want to help others.
You’re urged to be cautious of anyone asking you to purchase gift cards since that is a common form of payment used by scammers.
Troopers say you should diligently research any charity that contacts you unexpectedly.
