ISP troopers investigating deadly motorcycle wreck in Rush County

(Carthage, IN) – A single-vehicle motorcycle crash claimed a Rushville man’s life late Sunday morning in northern Rush County.

Around 11:30 am, Indiana State Police Dispatch received a report of a serious crash involving a motorcycle near County Road 700 North and County Road 700 West.

A state trooper arriving on the scene found 50-year-old Steven William Hockmuth unconscious and unresponsive in a drainage ditch east of County Road 700 West.

A preliminary investigation determined Hockmith was riding a motorcycle northbound on County Road 700 West and failed to navigate the curve. ISP says he ran off the road and into the drainage ditch.

Hockmuth was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say Hockmuth was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Indiana State Police was assisted by the Carthage Fire Department, Raleigh EMS, the Rush County Coroner’s Office, and Davis Towing.
