ISP identifies suspect accused of shooting wife, Franklin County deputy

Franklin County, IN — Indiana State Police have identified the man accused of shooting his wife and a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy early last Friday morning.

Troopers say 31-year-old Gregory Guilfoyle of Brookville was spotted walking in the area of State Road 1 and US 52 in sub-zero temperatures while holding a young girl later identified as his wife Hannah’s 23-month-old daughter.

ISP says when Deputy Arin Bowers approached Guilfoyle the suspect shot Bowers, who was not injured thanks to his body armor.

Deputy Bowers returned fire and seriously injured Guilfoyle, whose wife was later found shot with critical injuries in the couple’s home on nearby Colonial Heights Drive.

Gregory and Hannah Guilfoyle both remain at UC Medical Center.

Gregory Guilfoyle has been charged in Franklin Circuit Court with two counts of Attempted Murder (Level 1 felony) and one count of Neglect of a Dependent (Level 6 felony).

Deputy Bowers, who is a five-year Franklin County Sheriff’s Office veteran, has been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation into the incident continues.
