Irma G. Amberger

Irma G. Amberger, age 100 of Batesville, died Sunday, May 5, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus.  Born March 8, 1919 in Ripley County Indiana, she is the daughter of Eleanora (Nee: Struewing) and Anthony Haskamp.  She married Raymond “Jack” Amberger June 11, 1940 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris and he preceded her in death December 19, 1981.  She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Family Church in Oldenburg.

Irma quilted and crocheted her whole life.  Having made hundreds of quilts and crocheted pieces, she not only shared them with family and friends, but organizations throughout the tri-state as well.  Other interests included crossword puzzles and cards, especially 500 and Solo.  Her girls explained that Irma was an exceptional cook and could turn little to nothing into a great meal.  They also teased she had a weakness for garage sales.  Her greatest joy was being a grandma and having all the little ones around.

Irma is survived by her daughters Marcia Luers of Hamburg, Jean Miller of Oldenburg, Mary Best of Greensburg; 14 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren and 26 great great grandchildren.  In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter Helen Laker; sisters Leona Haskamp, Edna Schwegman, Esther Barnhorst, Roseda Bischoff, Myrtle Voegele and brother Ambrose Haskamp.

Visitation is Thursday, May 9th, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home.  Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Carl Langenderfer O.F.M. officiating and burial in the church cemetery.  The family requests memorials to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice or Holy Family Capital Improvement Fund.
