Indiana’s new abortion law now in effect

Statewide — Indiana’s near-total ban on abortion went into effect at Midnight, despite an ACLU lawsuit challenging the new law.

That suit will receive a hearing on Monday.

Abortions are now prohibited in the state except in cases of rape, incest, or if the mother’s life is at risk.

When abortions are permitted they will only be performed at hospitals or clinics owned by hospitals.

State lawmakers approved the new law this summer after the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade in June.
