Indiana sets new record for monthly COVID cases

STATEWIDE — The State of Indiana has set a new record for the most COVID-19 cases in a month.

The Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) says just over 195-thousand have been reported midway through January, which is more than the former monthly record of 173-thousand cases for all of December 2020.

Almost all of the new cases can be attributed to the Omicron variant.

On Monday, IDOH reported 9870 new cases and no deaths across the state.

Locally, Dearborn County had 74 positives; Ripley County reported 61 cases; Decatur County checked in with 29, and Franklin County had 14 new cases.
