(Indianapolis, IN) – Indiana’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.3 percent in July, according to the Department of Workforce Development.
By comparison, the national unemployment rate reported for July was 4.1%.
In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate is 63.1% compared to the national rate of 61.4%.
This rate is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older who are either working or actively looking for work.
Those not in the labor force primarily includes students, retirees and other non-working populations, such as those unable to work due to a disability or illness, or adults responsible for their family’s childcare needs.
Indiana’s total labor force stands at 3,489,469.
July 2026 total private employment is 2,843,900 a decrease of 4,900 since June.
Industries that experienced job increases this month included:
- Construction (+1,700)
- Private Educational & Health Services (+1,200)
- Trade, Transportation & Utilities (+600)
As of August 1, there were 101,704 open job postings throughout the state.
As of the week ending on August 1,Indiana had 18,092 continued unemployment insurance claims filed.
