HS baseball and softball recaps from March 31

The following are varsity baseball and softball recaps (unless stated otherwise) from Thursday, March 31. This may be updated, so please check back.

In varsity baseball, South Decatur fell 12-nothing in five to Brownstown Central.  The Braves held the Cougars hitless through the first four innings.  The Cougars struggled defensively with five errors.

Shawe had its second big offensive outing in as many games as the Hilltoppers crushed Columbus Christian 20-1.  Jacob Hertz collected four RBI on four hits which included two doubles.  Wyatt Nichter and Tyler Hill both booked three hits with a double.  Nichter drove in three runs.  Hill batted in two.  And Hunter Kennett picked up three RBI with a double at the plate.  He also got the start on the bump and tossed three innings for the win.  Kennett gave up one run on one hit and struck out four.  Kahn and Hertz both pitched one inning of scoreless relief.

In varsity softball, East Central lost 11-0 in five innings to Columbus North.  The Trojans were held to just three hits by Ella Bruss, Lexi Hatmaker and Anna Coffman.

Southwestern Hanover fell 7-2 to Trinity Lutheran.  For the Rebels, Morgan Mahoney singled and homered.  Chloey Leach struck out five from the circle and also drove in a run on one hit.

Batesville fell at Rushville 8-3.  It was a 2-2 contest heading into the home fifth when the host Lions scored five times on three hits, two walks and a couple of errors.

The Bulldogs certainly had their chances to score more runs but stranded 12 on base.  And less the two errors, the BHS defense made several great plays.

Emma Belter had three hits for the Bulldogs and teammate Samantha Kessens had two.

For Rushville, Rochelle Meyers had a pair of singles and RBI to match while Shrayder Fischer recorded three hits.

We thank everyone who contributed to the recaps.
