Howard Smith, Jr., 81, of Harrison, Ohio passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 at the University of Florida Hospital in Leesburg. He was born in Milan on November 17, 1943, the son of Howard Sr. and Edna Meyer Smith. He was married to Marlene Schrichten on July 17, 1965 and his wife of 59 years survives. Other survivors include one son Scott (Jennifer) Smith of Hamilton, Ohio; three grandchildren McKenzie, Abby, and Landon; two brothers Larry (Ilene) Smith of Monroe, Michigan and Jerry Smith of Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law Shirley Smith. Mr. Smith was a 1961 graduate of Milan High School. After service in the Air National Guard, Howard began his working career. He worked in the carpentry business with his father, and after obtaining his associates degree in accounting, he worked as an accountant for Baldwin Pianos in Cincinnati and spent most of his career as an accountant for Remke Supermarkets. After retirement he drove for Relay Express. Howard and Marlene spent their winters at the Webster Resort Park in Florida. Howard was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry, the Milan American Legion, and the Crosby Senior Center in Harrison. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2 at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Jared Tucher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will also be on Monday at the church beginning at 12 p.m. Memorials may be given to the church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
