Hessler on trial for alleged sex crimes dating to the 1980’s

SHELBY COUNTY, IN — A Greensburg man is on trial in Shelby Circuit Court for allegedly committing a series of home invasion sexual assaults several decades ago.

Fifty-eight-year-old Steven Ray Hessler (pictured) was arrested at his home on Hendricks Street in August 2020 for crimes allegedly committed in Shelbyville and Shelby County between 1982 and 1985.

Investigators used DNA evidence to connect Hessler to the crimes.

He’s charged with seven counts of Burglary, two counts of Rape, eight counts of Unlawful Deviant Conduct, one count of Criminal Deviant Conduct, two counts of Robbery, one count of Theft, two counts of Criminal Confinement,  and one count of Corrupt Business Influence.

All of the charges against Hessler are felony counts.

Several of his alleged victims are expected to take the witness stand on behalf of the prosecution.
