Herbert D. Moody

Herbert D. Moody, age 87 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at his daughter’s home. Born November 18, 1935, in Rush County Indiana, he is the son of M. Minnie (Nee: Crippen) and William Albert Moody. He married Constance Gauck on August 3, 1956, at the St. Louis Rectory in Batesville. Herbert worked for Bohn Aluminum as a shipping and receiving clerk and Sintering Technologies in Greensburg, Indiana before retiring.

Herbert enjoyed watching old westerns on television. He especially liked John Wayne movies. Herbert also enjoyed watching dirt track racing. Lawrenceburg Speedway was a favorite place for him to watch live racing.

He owned a 1950 Ford tractor, and a favorite pastime was to take the grandkids on rides with it. Herbert also liked to fix up old cars (“children said more like “messing with”) and could be found driving fast in those cars.

Herbert liked to go fishing. He enjoyed collecting all kinds of hand tools. Hammers were his favorite tool to add to his collection. A favorite treat was eating horehound old fashioned candies.

Herbert and his wife, Connie loved all kinds of animals, but dogs were a favorite. Herbert and Connie took family vacations with the kids and always drove to their destinations. They visited the 48 lower states and Herbert enjoyed this immensely.

He is survived by his wife Connie of Batesville; daughter and son-in-law Vanessa and Randy Ellis of Batesville; sons and daughters-in-law Rory and Brenda Moody of Fairland, Indiana and Robin and Denise Moody of Kokomo, Indiana; grandchildren Jessica Sturgill, Sara Moody, Lyndsey Moody, Meagan Brookbank, Joseph Perry, Megan Perry, James Perry, Justin Moody and Elizabeth Moody; great grandchildren Mackenzie and Mathew Sturgill, Jalen and Hunter Brookbank, Braidyn, Landon and Mason Back, Emma Haymaker, Nathan Moody, Jackson, Luci and Ezra Perry.
