Helvie Tabbed As Batesville Athletic Director

A new athletic director at Batesville High School was approved by the school board during the regular monthly meeting Monday night.

Bryan Helvie will assume the role as athletic director during the 2014-2015 school year. Job duties include game scheduling, and hiring officials and workers for high school and middle school sporting events.

Helvie is the Batesville High School Girl’s Tennis Coach and Managing Editor of the Batesville Herald-Tribune.

He will replace outgoing AD Mark Ferguson who announced his retirement after 21 years at the helm.

Statement from Batesville Community School Corporation:

The Batesville Community School Corporation’s Board of School Trustees approved Mr. Bryan Helvie as the new Batesville Community School Corporation (BCSC) Athletic Director during its regular meeting on April 21, 2014.  Mr. Helvie will begin his duties on July 1, 2014.  Mr. Helvie will replace Mr. Mark Ferguson, who retires after 21 years as the BCSC Athletic Director.

Mr. Helvie is the current Managing Editor of the Batesville Herald-Tribune. Bryan, a licensed Physical Education and Health teacher, has assumed varsity coaching roles in boy’s golf and girls tennis while serving as an assistant at both the high school and middle school levels in the boy’s basketball program. Bryan will assume Athletic Director duties for grades 7-12.

Mr. Helvie is a graduate of Carroll High School in Flora, IN.  He received his Bachelors Degree in Education from Ball State University (IN) in 1990. He looks forward to his new role in the Bulldog family and to helping the BCSC athletic department achieve its goal of being recognized as the best in Indiana and one of the best in the United States.
