Helen L. Laker, age 66 of Batesville, died Saturday, October 21, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born December 11, 1950 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Irma (Nee: Haskamp) and Raymond Amberger. She married Eugene Laker June 12, 1971 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. Helen worked 18 years as Dr. Hutchins’s receptionist.
Helen was an exceptional baker and cook. According to her family, “Anything she put in the oven came out delicious.” Her pies, breads and casseroles will be missed. She liked working puzzles, especially Sudoku, playing games on her iPad and also did quite a bit of sewing and crocheting. She made clothes for her family when they were younger and through the years crocheted countless items for the family as well. All the kids and grandkids have doll clothes she made for them. It was a labor of loved as Helen cherished her grandchildren. Although happy and usually with a smile, her daughters laughed at her two most used phrases: “Be still!” and “In a minute!”
Helen is survived by her husband Eugene; daughters Amy Ronnebaum of Batesville, Jan Hogan of West Chester, Ohio, Rae Crain of Metamora, Jill Tekulve and Lynn Narwold, both of Batesville; mother Irma Amberger of Batesville; sisters Marcia Luers of Hamburg, Eleanor Miller of Oldenburg, Mary Best of Greensburg and 11 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father.
Visitation is Tuesday, October 24th, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 25th at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice or The Hansen Center.
