Three home runs and a triple from Batesville’s Trey Heidlage helped lead the Bulldogs past Switzerland County 15-3 on Saturday. Heidlage homered in the first, tripled in the fourth, homered in the sixth, and homered in the seventh.
The Bulldogs captured the lead in the first inning, but were tied with Switzerland County 2-2 after the third, until Batesville exploded for five runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and sixth, and six more in the seventh.
As stated above, the Bulldogs took the lead for good with five runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Alex McPherson singled off of Witham, driving in one run, Heidlage tripled off of Witham, driving in two runs, and Zach Britton homered off of Witham, driving in two runs.
Batesville scored six runs in the seventh inning. The Bulldog’s big inning was driven by a home run by Heidlage, a home run by Jacob Christie, and a single by Caleb Raab.
Garrett Burkhart earned the win for Bulldogs. He tossed six innings, allowing two runs, six hits, and striking out two. Witham took the loss for Switzerland County. He threw five and a third innings, allowing nine runs, 13 hits, and striking out seven.
Home runs for Batesville came when Heidlage homered in the first, sixth, and seventh innings, Christie homered in the seventh inning, and Britton homered in the fourth inning.
Overall, Batesville Overall, Batesville collected 20 hits. Heidlage, McPherson, Britton, Roell, Christie, and Raab each collected multiple hits for the Bulldogs. McPherson and Heidlage led Batesville with four hits each.
The win puts Batesville at 6-4 and 2-0 in the EIAC. The Bulldogs will compete against Connersville on Monday.
