Hazel Lake – Brookville

Hazel Bernice (Jasper) Lake, age 90, joined our Lord and Savior in eternal peace on September 14, 2018 after an extended illness.  Preceded in death by her parents, Laskous Taylor Jasper and Mabel (Adams) Jasper, 10 siblings, and her husband, Leslie Willis Lake. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Diane Lake of West Columbia, SC, a grandson, Keith Eldon Scott of Greensburg, IN, a great grandson, Logan Scott and her sister, Virginia Hester (Jasper) Harrell (Lamoine Harrell) of Shirley, IN.

Born in Ansel, KY, Hazel became the caretaker of her siblings after her mother passed away in childbirth.  She loved the Lord at a young age. Going to church was the highlight of her life, especially the gospel singing and “dinner on the ground.” Despite only achieving a sixth grade education, Hazel became wise in life.  She married and moved to Brookville, Indiana, where she lived for 27 years.  She worked in a variety of jobs.  After a short residence in Arkansas, she moved to West Columbia, SC, where she lived for the last 18 years.

Hazel was a nurturer.  She cared for her family and the church; volunteering her time to church functions and helping others.  She loved to cook and enjoyed a number of hobbies, including painting, sewing, and pine needle coiling.

After a short visitation from 11 until 12 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home on Thursday, September 20, she will be laid to rest at St. Jacob Church Cemetery, County Line Road, Brookville, IN.  To sign the online guestbook please visit www.cookrosenberger.com.  The staff of Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Hazel Lake.
