Harry Laker – Sunman

Harry O. Laker, of Sunman, was born to Edmund and Martha Eckerle Laker on October 15, 1933 in Franklin County, Indiana.  He served his country with the United States Army.  Harry was united in marriage to Alma Riehle on July 12, 1958 at St. Nicholas Church and together they had six children.  He worked for Hill-Rom for 35 years and was a member of St. Nicholas Church, the Holy Name Society and the Sunman Fish and Game Club.  Even after retirement Harry stayed active mowing his 3 acres weekly, gardening, hunting, fishing, making wine, dancing, and watching Reds baseball and I.U. basketball.  He loved and cherished his grandchildren.  On Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the age of 84, he passed away at University Hospital in Cincinnati.

 

Those surviving who will cherish Harry’s memory include his loving wife of over 59 years, Alma Laker; children, Anita (Mike) Schuman of Sunman, Gregory (Donna) Laker of Batesville, Carla (Gerard) Enzinger of Oldenburg, Ann (David) Lesko of Sunman, and Gerald (Jennifer) Laker of Batesville; 21 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.  He is survived by 8 siblings; Marge Kirschner, Charlie Laker, Albert Laker, Evelyn Volk, Agnes Volk, Delores Gindling, Ron Laker and Eugene Laker.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Doug Laker; a brother, Marty Laker; a son-in-law, Brent Sarringhaus; and a great-grandchild, Carter Bond. 

 

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman.  Rosary will be recited at 3:15.  Rev. Shaun Whittington will officiate a Mass of Christian burial on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church.  The Sunman American Legion Kenneth L. Diver Post #337 will provide full military graveside honors immediately following in the church cemetery.
